HIGHLIGHTS
- who: Cressida A. Madigan from the Division University of, USA have published the research: A Macrophage Response to Mycobacterium leprae Phenolic Glycolipid Initiates Nerve Damage in Leprosy, in the Journal: (JOURNAL) of August/24,/2017
- what: The athymic mouse footpad is used to grow M. leprae for research purposes, but mice do not manifest neurological disease (Scollard et_al, 2006). The authors show that the innate macrophage response to PGL-1 triggers demyelination in_vivo, even before bacilli have detectably infected the glia.
