- What: The aim of this article is to address this issue and explore the function, or functions, that auxiliary do possessed in declarative sentences in Middle English from a quantitative perspective. The aim of CA is to carry out a semantic investigation of a given grammatical construction by identifying lexical elements (also called collexemes) that are typical of such construction. This study investigates which functions auxiliary do had during the Middle English period in declarative sentences by looking at the semantic features of the infinitives it occurs with.
