Abolishment of the families Myoviridae, Podoviridae, and Siphoviridae and the order Caudovirales The most drastic change in phage classification officialised with this release is the abolishment of the morphology-based families Myoviridae, Podoviridae, and Siphoviridae and the removal of the order Caudovirales, which is replaced by the class Caudoviricetes to group all tailed bacterial and archaeal viruses with icosahedral capsids and a doublestranded DNA genome.
