In practice, pressure regulation is usually achieved by common hydraulic structures and devices like Brake-Pressure Tanks (BPTs), where the excess hydrostatic pressure and kinetic energy of water is dissipated to the atmospheric pressure and Pressure Reduction Valves (PRVs) that can regulate the downstream water pressure to the desired (set) value. An analytical study for optimal location selection of PRVs and hydro-turbines in WDSs can be found, while the economic viability of turbines placed in municipal water networks is highlighted.
