Over the past decade, single-pArticle electron cryomicroscopy (cryoEM) has become an increasingly popular and powerful tool in understanding the structure and function of macromolecular assemblies (Callaway, 2020; Cressey and Callaway, 2017; Wigge et_al, 2020). Whereas density maps at near-atomic resolutions were relatively uncommon a decade ago, it is now quite common (Yao et_al, 2020) to achieve 3D reconstructions at better than a 4-Å resolution, where robust and reliable models can be built directly from the density map (Henderson et_al, 2012; Lawson et_al, 2021).
