Analysis of wear mechanisms under cutting parameters: influence of double layer tialn/tin pvd and ticn/al2o3 chemical vapor deposition-coated tools on milling of aisi d2 steel

  • What: This study analyzes the behavior of commercial inserts with two coating layers deposited through PVD and CVD, with the grain of the substrate (ultrafine and coarse). Based on the microscopy, EDX, and temperature results, this study aimed to understand the wear mechanism behavior with cutting speed variations for PVD-Low=120 m/min, PVD-Medium=185 m/min, PVD-High=276 m/min, CVD-Low=185 m/min, CVD-Medium=285 m/min, and CVD-High=384 m/min in the machining of steel with high C and Cr contents and a hardness of 29 HRC . . .
