The study revealed that male hedgehogs are more prone to death in traffic than females, especially during the mating season, but they also appear to live longer than females. Previous research on the life span of European hedgehogs has had mixed findings, with some studies of relatively balanced, or equal, male-female ratios showing that females have a longer life span and others concluding that males live longer.
