    Patient-oriented research (POR) refers to actively engaging ‘patients`-individuals with personal experience of health issues and those close to them-in the design, implementation, and translation of health research to improve health services. The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) in the United_States funds research to investigate patientoriented research in five priority areas, including health care delivery and disparities research. In Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) launched the Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) to promote and support greater patient involvement in health research.
