SUMMARY

    Given pre-existing geographical health patterns, the authors expected higher COVID-19 infection and mortality rates in more deprived districts. Even though COVID-19 is transmitted by individuals, these studies consistently report that the risk of COVID-19 infections, as well as COVID-19-related mortality, are higher in more deprived than in less deprived areas. With regard to COVID-19 it should therefore be of interest to include data over longer time periods to account for temporal variations and to disentangle the associations between different deprivation domains and COVID-19 incidence and mortality . . .
