Artemia selective grazing: survival value and nutritional intake

  • What: Cell counts on a tube`s 1 ml of medium from before and after the experiment were placed in a Palmer Cell well, and 3 transects were examined across the middle of the well at 400× magnification, and all cells were counted and identified to species. This analysis is crude, as the number of phytoplankton species is limited, but a more rigorous analysis using selectivity strength can be conducted. As the authors show, simply comparing phytoplankton frequencies at the start and end of the grazing trial as reported by Reeve is inappropriate.
