SUMMARY
The use of mechanical ventilation (MV) in the Intensive Care Unit is frequent and exposes patients to the risk of acquiring ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) which is a type of Healthcare Associated Infection. The Institute of Health Improvement (IHI) has developed a preventive ventilator care bundle that incorporates several strategies to prevent morbidity associated with the use of ventilators.
