- What: The study of attitudes towards Chinese-English code-mixing in Mainland China holds significant importance for several reasons. In sociolinguistic area, the study of Gumperz suggests the social motivations behind code-switching, producing the first conversational typology of code-switching in the form of a distinction between "situational" and "metaphorical code-switching" (Stell and amp; Yakpo, 2015). The study investigates the Chinese-English CM phenomenon in mainland China focusing on whether some CMs are welcomed and some are not.
