SUMMARY
Cleft lip and palate is the most common craniofacial birth defect with a prevalence of approximately 1 in 700 live B births worldwide. Presurgical orthopedic (PSO) treatment is commonly used to narrow the cleft and align the alveolar segments over the course of a few months by inserting an individually designed plate into the neonate`s mouth, which keeps the tongue out of the cleft.
