Being called “elderly” impacts adult development: a critical analysis of enduring ageism during covid in nz online news media

Morgan et_al`s qualitative document analysis study of 91 articles found that coverage stigmatized "elderly" as passive, vulnerable, unable to navigate threats to their health, or respond effectively to the move to digitalization (e_g, ordering groceries online, undertaking online banking during strict lockdowns). Despite outright rejection and protests by older adults themselves of this disparaging term (Avers et_al, 2011; Mather, 2021; UN, 1991), use of "elderly" persists widely . . .
