Participants Participants were recruited from the University of California, San Diego (see Table, ), with individuals identified by responses to a questionnaire distributed to undergraduate psychology classes. Survey completion was optional, and the information obtained was used to characterize alcohol-drinking patterns. A follow-up structured telephone interview excluded individuals reporting personal/familial (up to two generations) alcoholism, neurologic/psychiatric disorders, and recent recreational drug use.
