SUMMARY

    Studies performed on different species of the genus have proven the analgesic, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, antiproliferative, antiplasmodial, antibacterial, antifungal and antiinflammatory activities of Fumaria species. The few existing studies cite its anticonvulsant and neuroprotective activities, which are assigned also to the composition in alkaloids, such as protopine, parfumidine, fumaricine, cryptopine, allocryptopine, stylopine or fumschleicherine. Cytotoxic activity is reported for species belonging to the Fumaria genus, especially for the officinal one and it is studied towards various cancerous cell lines (e_g, melanoma, breast cancer, leukemia).
