HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

    A qualitative review on barriers to parent-child communication on SRH issues in East Africa found gender differences, level of education, parents` occupations, religion, and social-cultural norms as key barriers to communication about SRH. Previous studies on parent-child communication about SRH in Uganda have targeted adolescents in a school setting, only considered parents perspectives and among very young adolescents (10-14 years). The major barrier to parent adolescent communication in this study was parent`s busy schedules due to pressures of work which hindered interaction between parents and children.
