- who: Kearrin Sims from the College of Arts, Society and Education, James Cook University, Cairns, Queensland, Australia have published the Article: BRI as cognitive empire: Epistemic violence, ethnonationalism and alternative imaginaries in Zomian highlands, in the Journal: (JOURNAL)
- what: Empirically, the article focuses on China-Laos relations, and the epistemic positioning of highland ethnic minority groups in northern Laos. Much of this analysis has centred around the concept of ‘Zomia', which was first introduced by van Schendel to problematize and ‘denaturalize' normative regions of area studies-South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia.
