• What: The latter two components - exploring alternative responses to the threat through better information flows and consultations, and coping processes through marshalling and enhancing capacities - constitute the focus of this article. Although uncertainty may be inevitable, ‘foresight methods can help the authors simplify that uncertainty and identify threats and opportunities`.14 ‘The terms futures or futures thinking are now used widely as umbrella terms to mean a whole host of activities and approaches that are focused on understanding and using the future.`15 One must bear in mind that this is not about prediction, though.
