SUMMARY
Despite a high level of compensation and professional prestige, physicians suffer higher rates of burnout, a work-related syndrome involving emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a sense of reduced personal accomplishment relative to the general population. One of the largest studies done on physician burnout to date surveyed over 5445 physicians in 2014, including 64 radiation oncology (RO) professionals, and found that RO professionals experienced the second lowest prevalence of burnout among all named specialties.
