    In cultural and cross-cultural psychology, Chinese participants are often grouped together as if they were a homogeneous and representative group for comparison with other cultural groups (Nisbett et_al, 2001; Bond et_al, 2004; World Values Survey, 2018). The perceptual environment and mode of subsistence have considerable effects on the development of field-dependent and independent cognitive styles (Berry, 1976; Uskul et_al, 2008).
