Chromium complexes supported by salen-type ligands for the synthesis of polyesters, polycarbonates, and their copolymers through chemoselective catalysis

SUMMARY

    Salen-based chromium complexes, in combination with anions derived from PPN+ salts, are among the most effective and robust catalysts for the ring-opening copolymerization of CO2 with epoxides. Salen derivatives such as salan and salalen have also been tested as ancillary ligands for chromium complexes as catalysts in this class of reactions. In the copolymerization of cyclohexene oxide (CHO) and CO2, salanCr complexes showed a higher activity with respect to their salen counterparts by using PPNN3 as a co-catalyst.
