Chronic pain in the icd-11: new diagnoses that clinical psychologists should know about

SUMMARY

    This contributes to the artificial and problematic dichotomy of "psychological" vs. "somatic" chronic pain in the ICD-10 (Arnold et_al, 2017; Rief et_al, 2008; Treede et_al, 2010). Most importantly, the distinction of "psychological" chronic pain on the one hand and "somatic" chronic pain on the other, is not useful because chronic pain is always an interplay of psychological, biological, and social factors (Raja et_al, 2020; Rief et_al, 2008; Treede et_al, 2010).
