Social media data is biased by active posters (Li et_al 2013; Di Minin et_al 2015), and thus fails to capture overall social opinion and behaviour. Information on social media should be viewed as supplementary to data derived from scientific studies (Sullivan et_al 2019) and should be ground truthed.
