    Weather RaDAR systems (radio detection and ranging, hereafter named "radar" for simplicity) can represent an alternative solution, as they can provide a spatially seamless estimation of rainfall in near real time. A single weather radar can cover large areas up to 200 km from the radar site with a temporal resolution of 5-10 min and a spatial range resolution ranging from 125 m up to 500 m.
