    The antiviral response is largely mediated by the transcription of Interferon (IFN) genes, in particular the type I (IFN-a, -b) and type III (IFN-l1-3) that are the most important IFNs produced by many cell types. Contrastingly, Gilbert et_al measured the mRNA levels of type I (IFN-a and -b) and type III (IFN-l1-3) IFNs, reporting that IFN a and -b transcript levels were induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection, reaching more elevated levels in the adult/elderly with respect to the pediatric age in which only IFN- l1 was . . .
