The paper proposes a solution to a longstanding debate concerning Somali morphophonology and tone by appealing to a prosodically-conditioned markedness constraint whose ranking in the MRK cophonology effectively militates against the appearance of H tone only within a defined window at the right edge of a phrase, rather than acting on all H tones indiscriminately.
