Developing a non-newtonian fluid model for dust, for application to astrophysical flows

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: The authors develop a dust fluid model starting from a system of SDEs describing the motion of a single dust grain in a turbulent gas. The authors explore the physical properties of the dust fluid model and consider the behaviour of the dust stress tensor in a rotating shear flow. The authors briefly outline the key properties of the astrophysical fluids, which are the primary motivation for developing this model, for the benefit of non-astrophysicists. The authors show that when the fluid is thermally stable, and the turbulent velocity small relative to the fluid velocity . . .
