- What: The aims of this study were to develop universal Pneumocystis primers with improved species coverage and PCR amplification efficiency, and subsequently to apply these primers to investigate the prevalence and genetic diversity of Pneumocystis organisms in these free-living animals. For mtLSU, almost all new primer pairs designed in this study showed a single, strong band with the expected size of ~430-750 bp . Although there are this study, the authors aligned these primers with currently available mitogenomes from multiple reports of mismatches of these primers with the targets, even among different P. jirovecii Pneumocystis species . . .
