    Although improved irrigation and water-saving practices have been adopted by some growers, they have not been widely adopted since the growers do not benefit directly from saving water, and these systems are expensive. Many of the problems in irrigated soil can be controlled in soilless crops, so there is considerable potential for employing saline water irrigation in soilless media, particularly for the production of vegetables.
