- what: The authors examine the group-specific fate of diazotrophs in the mesopelagic ocean. The authors show that all globally significant N2-fixing cyanobacteria and noncyanobacterial diazotrophs are systematically present in sinking particles down to 1000 m. Whatever the mechanism behind the vertical flux of Trichodesmium, the authors report here higher abundances at 1000 m compared to those at shallower depths at both stations . . .
