A side-effect of this widespread insecticide use is that populations of many insect species-those that are the targets of insecticides, as well as nontarget species-have evolved strong resistance to important classes of insecticides (e_g Hemingway and Ranson 2000; Rivero et_al 2010; Moyes et_al 2017).
