SUMMARY
Civic engagement, including political engagement and community engagement, is expected to have a mostly positive impact on health. Activities of communities and social movements can have direct effects on public health via successful implementation of projects initiated by active communities (e_g, health and well-being projects, solutions of environmentalists) and social movements addressing health issues, e_g, HIV/AIDS, or immunisation campaigns.
