Editorial: targeted genome editing for crop improvement

SUMMARY

    The genome editing approach is revolutionizing both agricultural and plant research. Important technological developments, including optimization of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (CRISPR/Cas9) protocols in popular and neglected crops, and innovative methodologies approaches have been provided. Several examples of traits improvement obtained through this methodology have already been made available (Zhu et_al, 2020; Gao, 2021; Huang et_al, 2021). The aim of this topic is to survey the major technological advances and application of genome editing in crops.
