SUMMARY
The genome editing approach is revolutionizing both agricultural and plant research. Important technological developments, including optimization of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (CRISPR/Cas9) protocols in popular and neglected crops, and innovative methodologies approaches have been provided. Several examples of traits improvement obtained through this methodology have already been made available (Zhu et_al, 2020; Gao, 2021; Huang et_al, 2021).
