    Accordingly, using the limited bedding and nesting (LBN) model of ELA in male rats, the authors previously found that ELA causes anhedonia for natural rewards such as palatable food and social play, and even for the drug cocaine. In contrast to males, the consequences of ELA in females were quite different: ELA-reared adult female rats showed enhanced vulnerability to addiction-like reward-seeking, including enhanced motivation to pursue addictive opioid drugs as well as palatable foods.
