Enhanced adsorption selectivity of carbon dioxide and ethane on porous metal-organic framework functionalized by a sulfur-rich heterocycle

HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

Carbon dioxide is a major component of the anthropogenic pollution of the atmosphere, leading to global climate change. Microporous MOFs assembled with 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate linkers (dabco=1,4-diazabicycl octane) featured up to 50% greater CO2 adsorption uptake and adsorption selectivity compared with structurally similar, prepared using terephthalate linkers and containing no heteroatoms. Such an improvement in the adsorption characteristics is not accompanied by an increase in the CO2 adsorption heat; thus, recycling of the porous materials could be done with minimal costs. Quite impressive CO2 adsorption selectivities were obtained for CO2 /CH4 . . .
