A more sensible choice, as will bear out in the analysis presented in the next section is to extend the opening of the cone to twice that ratio α=2RTH /R ≈ 3.1 which corresponds to the two mass spheres of the surviving and merging peaks touching at the scale of the critical event, signifying the merger onset. In Fig 7, the authors show the ratio of the number of critical events per logarithmic smoothing scale . . .
