Serving as the bodies ` physical barrier and largest organ, human skin is home to millions of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and microscopic mites, which collectively compose the "skin microbiome." Given that skin is the interface, it is important to distinguish the difference between members of the skin microbiome (resident to the skin and holding important functional roles) versus those found on the skin with a transient membership (likely from the environment).
