Expanding diversity of bunyaviruses identified in mosquitoes

SUMMARY

    BLAST analyses of sequences of the PCR products identified various bunyavirus-like sequences with some similarity to previously-identified viral RNA-dependent RNA_polymerase (RdRP) genes. The phylogenetic analysis of partial RdRP amino_acid sequences showed that ten different viral sequences were identified in the Phenuiviridae clade; tentatively named as Culex (Cx) phenuivirus 1, Cx hudovirus, Cx tenuivirus, Cx goukovirus 1, 2, and 3, Aedes (Ae) phasivirus, Anopheles (An) phasivirus 1 and 2, and Mansonia goukovirus (Fig 1).
