Exploration of mitochondrial defects in sarcopenic hip fracture patients

  • how: For this the authors used a total of 16 non-sarcopenic 10 probable sarcopenic and 5 sarcopenic primary myoblast cultures. Complementary to the mitochondrial function the authors investigated the glycolytic activity in the primary myoblast cultures. The authors identified significantly reduced levels of respiratory_chain complex I activity in muscle biopsies from sarcopenic patients.
