Familiarity modulates both intra- and interspecific yawn contagion in red-capped mangabeys

SUMMARY

    The authors generated both Yawn and Control videos depicting unfamiliar hamadryas and unfamiliar/familiar mangabeys and humans, for a total of 10 video stimuli per tested subject (i.e., unfamiliar and familiar mangabeys Control/Yawn, unfamiliar and familiar humans Control/Yawn, hamadryas Control/Yawn). To assess the spontaneity level of human yawns, the authors asked seven other volunteers to score each yawn (1=fake yawn; 10=real yawn). For all the three species used as stimuli, each Control video stimulus included two alternated videos of the same 2 individuals depicted in the Yawn video . . .
