    The most recent definition introduced by the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP2) in 2019 defines sarcopenia as a progressive, generalized skeletal muscle disorder, involving the accelerated loss of muscle function and muscle mass or quality. Association between depression and sarcopenia appeared inconsistent according to the literature; while Hsu et_al proposed that sarcopenia was linked with depression, Byeon reported no high prevalence of depression in patients with sarcopenia.
