Based on a review published in 2006, the authors found that by this time several experiments had highlighted the important role of uterine NK cells in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. The resulting imbalanced immune_response can also lead to placental apoptosis and necrosis. Further studies have shown that IFN-g was required during embryo implantation and that IFN-g levels above or below the threshold may be harmful to the pregnant woman.
