    It has been reported that glycosylation might play a role in collagen fibrillogenesis, cross-linking, mineralization, and collagen-cell interaction. Covalent intermolecular cross-linking of collagen is initiated by the conversion of Lys/Hyl residues located in the non-helical C- and N-telopeptides (C- and N-telo) of the molecule to the respective aldehydes Lysald/Hylald, catalyzed by lysyl oxidase.
