SUMMARY
The first elastic simple models indicated a deflation source located in a range of 30-60 km east of Mayotte, at a depth of 25-50 km, depending on the model and the time periods considered. In May 2019, the MAYOBS1 cruise discovered a large new volcano edifice, Fani Maoré, at the seafloor around 50 km east of the Mayotte island.
