HIGHLIGHTS
- What: Although this study investigated the effects of Khat production and consumption on dietary diversity and food insecurity, alternative explanations such as land size for crop production, non-food household expenditures, nonagricultural income type, household size and crop diversity were addressed during the analysis. This study showed that compared to households that did not produce or consume Khat, household food security increased for consumers and non-producers but decreased for non-consumer-producers.
