SUMMARY
Social media has been found to be the pre‐ ferred channel for populist communication (Ernst et_al, 2019; Gerbaudo, 2018). Initial findings show that user‐generated populism flourishes in comments sec‐ tions below news stories (Blassnig et_al, 2019; Galpin and amp; Trenz, 2019; Thiele, 2022a) and breaches norms of democratic communication (Hameleers, 2019). Repeated find‐ ings of incivility in comments (e_g, Coe et_al, 2014; Rowe, 2015) have left little of that hope (Quandt, 2018).
