Human antibodies against herpes simplex virus 2 glycoprotein g do not neutralize but mediate antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity

HIGHLIGHTS

• What: The authors show in this study for the first time that purified human anti-EXCT4-mgG-2 antibodies present ADCC by granulocytes, monocytes, NK-cells, and with PBMC. This study shows that low levels of anti-EXCT4-mgG-2 antibodies are detected in HSV-1+2- and HSV-2 infected subjects, a finding which may be favorable for a therapeutic 14 of 16 vaccine aiming to enhance the antibody response to this protein.
