- future: Larger cohort of severe/critical patients and further functional studies are required to reveal the role of ACE2 genotypes in COVID-19. As they all have a potentially relevant role in the pathophysiology of COVID-19 further studies will be needed to delineate effector genes at the 3p21.31 locus.
