The mountains are a favourable terrain for hydropower development. Based on steep fall of ~ 2100 m in upper 100 km length of the river compared with a gentle fall of ~ 500 m in lower 100 km, they were considered as upper and lower stretch, alias ecosystems. Based on the dominant categories, the river stretch was classified as "polyoxybiontic-cummesotrophic" at S3 and S8 while "moderate O2-cum-eutrophic" at S5, implying higher organic and nutrient load in the river section at S5.
